Adoption
is a difficult decision made from love. Hausmann &
Hickman places newborns and children under the age
of five in loving financially secure adoptive homes.
We are here to assist birth parents in selecting a
stable and secure family to raise their child.
During your pregnancy and six week postnatal period,
the adoptive parents may assist you with your living
and medical expenses. These expenses may include
your rent, food, utilities, clothing and
transportation. We will help you to obtain medical
care and benefits to assure that you receive quality
prenatal care for you and your child. All expenses
are reviewed and approved by the court. We also
provide counsel with a licensed therapist at no cost
to assist you through this difficult time in your
life
All prospective adoptive families submit to a
thorough home study process. A licensed social
worker evaluates the family on several levels to
assure a safe placement. In order to qualify as a
prospective adoptive family, the family must have no
criminal or child abuse history, evidence of a
stable financial history, a stable and loving
marriage, and a positive medical evaluation. In the
best interest of the child, the family's attitudes
towards adoption are also evaluated. Your child's
placement is monitored by the court to assure the
continued well being of your child.
Hausmann & Hickman represents prospective adoptive
families living in the State of Florida and other
qualified states. As the parent choosing an adoptive
placement for your child, you have the option to
select the family. You may meet and spend time with
the family of your choice. Many women request that
their adoptive parents attend sonograms, prenatal
appointments and/or the birth of the child. Most
adoptive families are thrilled to be a part of this
experience. Telephone, electronic and written
communication during your pregnancy is also
available at your request. After your child's birth,
you may elect to receive periodic pictures and
letters discussing your child's growth and
development. All communication are conducted with a
level of privacy to protect the identity of all
parties involved in the process.
Florida adoption law provides you the option of
choosing when to place your child for adoption. In
all cases you do not sign a consent for adoption
until after your child is born. The majority of
adoptive placements occur immediately after the
birth of the child. You may authorize your chosen
identified adoptive family to take the child home
directly from the hospital. Most birth parents
choose this direct placement to encourage a bond
between the child and the adoptive family and to
reduce emotional stress on themselves and the
adoptive family
Hausmann & Hickman encourages all birth families to
provide the adoptive child with a biological family
history. The birth parent has several ways to
provide this information. You may write a letter to
your child explaining your adoption decision and
provide pictures of you and your family so the child
always has a connection to his or her biological
roots.
Adoptive families pledge to keep this history safe
and share it with the child at an appropriate age.
All birth and adoptive families are encouraged to
apply with the Florida Adoption Reunion Registry to
allow the child to complete a birth parent search parties.
